THE STORY LAB AT THE 77th LOCARNO FILM FESTIVAL – Networking event
For the second time, Migros Culture Percentage Story Lab and the “BaseCamp Locarno” programme for young talent invited guests to a networking event and flying dinner. After a welcome address by Stefano Knuchel (BaseCamp project manager) and Tenzin Roder (Head of Story Lab), the filmmakers presented their current Story Lab-funded projects.
Afterwards, the guests enjoyed risotto in the cosy courtyard of the Istituto Sant’Eugenio and took the opportunity to exchange ideas with the project participants in an informal setting. The creators of the “Truth Detectives” project presented a prototype of their game, whereby the audience learn about human rights. In this true crime project, game skills can be used to bring the truth about human rights violations to light. Storylab participant Anja Reiss emphasised how valuable the personal exchange and discussions on site were for her. She particularly appreciated the direct feedback from the other story lab participants, which gave her valuable ideas.
The evening showed how valuable personal dialogue and direct feedback are for the promotion and development of creative projects. Such encounters not only strengthen creative collaboration within the industry, but also facilitate exchange with people outside the film world.
Impressions
This is the third time that the Migros Culture Percentage Story Lab has served as a partner of the “Locarno BaseCamp”. Launched in 2019, this project offers young film-makers an opportunity to immerse themselves in the Locarno Film Festival for eleven days and make new contacts within the industry. Under the title “In Conversation we Trust”, the fifth edition of the program brought together 200 talented young people from around the world.
