Story

After discovering boxes of family archives, I decided to investigate my father’s exile. Through my eyes, the film paints the portrait of a child who moves from one country to another, far from his roots and his mother, who stayed in Egypt. An intimate and geopolitical journey woven together through archives, encounters and animation.

Development since promotion to level I

During phase I, I was able to delve into the archive material found in my father’s home. These Super8s, DV cassettes and hundreds of letters brought me closer to my father’s life and his exile, which had been veiled in silence. In just four months, I was able to weave a narrative around five countries of exile, draw a portrait of the ghosts of the past and develop the first animation drawings.

Magical Dream Guardians

Format: tactical role play
Direction: Tabea Iseli
Production company: Stardust

Story

Magical Dream Guardians takes players into a world full of mysterious powers and racing hearts. As magical girls, they defend their town against nightmares that plague their fellow citizens. Similar to Fire Emblem, Dark Deity or Symphony of War, players will meet a whole host of charming companions who can be recruited as magical girls.

Development since promotion to level I

As part of Story Lab Stage I, our aim was to develop the interpersonal, innovative mechanics of Magical Dream Guardians. These were primarily the conception of the story and the meta-game mechanics. Collaboration with experts from other areas such as books, film & TV, cartoons/animation and tactical role-playing games was also key for us here.

Story

Amada Libertad tells the story of Salvadoran poet and freedom fighter Leyla Quintana who fought against the military dictatorship during the civil war in El Salvador in 1980. She processed her experiences in hundreds of poems, which were brought to the city thanks to an ingenious network of messengers from the war-torn areas.

Development since promotion to level I

We developed the animation styles: the figurative and the abstract animation, also the character design, style frames, first animation test and animatic for the teaser. We put together a teaser from the animatic, archive and documentary film. Work on the treatment, dramaturgy, the selection of poems and the first script were also part of the development phase.

P26

Format: TV series 6 x 45 min
Direction: tbd
Screenplay: Fanny Nussbaumer Writers’ room: Noëmi Steffen, Nicole Tobler, Pascal Glatz
Production company: Filmgerberei

Story

Rosmarie (53), a conformist housewife, is recruited in the late ’80s to a secret resistance organisation. In the world of psychological warfare, she unleashes a combative force within herself and uses her newly acquired weapons in the front garden, endangering not only her family but also the organisation, the true extent of which she has no idea.

Development since promotion to level I

The project developed from an ensemble series to a clear main character with a strong story arc. Intensive research sharpened the historical arena, which is used in a targeted way. The main character not only shows an underrepresented perspective, but also embodies the central criticisms of P-26, giving the series a precise and differentiated positioning.
